Why Roomwake

Thin TVs are great to look at. Hard to hear.

There’s no room in a thin TV for real speakers, so they’re small and usually point down or backward, not at you.

  • Less reading, more watching

Voices come from a bar that faces the couch instead of from speakers aimed at the wall.

  • Remote down

News mode lifts voices so you’re not turning it up for the talking and down for the explosions.

  • Fuller than TV speakers

Two full-range drivers and a bass port give music and movies more body than a thin TV can.

  • One cable

The optical cable in the box goes from your TV to the bar. No app, no Wi-Fi, no account.

How it works

Voices from the front, toward you.

Roomwake One sits under the screen and points two speakers straight at the couch. Then you choose how it sounds with one button.

Check your TV before you buy

  • Your TV needs an Optical / Digital Audio Out port (many TVs have one; check the back of yours), or use Bluetooth.
  • There is no HDMI port. Your TV’s own remote may not change the bar’s volume; the Roomwake remote does (2 AAA batteries, not included).
  • It’s a 2.0 stereo bar, not Dolby Atmos or surround.

Will it work with my TV?

Two quick checks: the port on the back of your TV, and the space in front of the screen.

The back of a TV with a square port labelled Optical or Digital Audio Out, next to two HDMI ports HDMI 1HDMI 2 OPTICAL / DIGITALAUDIO OUT AUDIO OUT(3.5 mm)

1. Find the optical port

Look on the back or side of your TV for a small square port labelled Optical, Digital Audio Out or SPDIF. That’s where the cable in the box goes. No optical port? A 3.5 mm audio out or Bluetooth works too.

A 17-inch bar shown under TVs of 32, 43 and 55 inches 32″43″55″ 17″ bar

2. Check the space

The bar is 17 inches wide and 2.5 inches tall. It’s sized for 32″–43″ TVs and works under 50–55″ ones, where it looks small. Measure the gap between your stand and the bottom of the screen: if it’s under 2.5 inches, the bar may cover the picture or the TV’s remote sensor, so wall-mount it with the included kit.

3. Set the TV to PCM

In your TV’s sound menu, choose the optical output and set Digital audio out to PCM. The bar plays stereo PCM; if the TV sends Dolby or DTS you’ll hear crackling or nothing.

Inside Roomwake One

  • Bass reflex port

A port on one end adds low end. No subwoofer in the box.

  • 40 W (2 × 20 W)

The maker’s power rating. We don’t quote “peak watts”.

The honest middle

More voice than your TV. Less fuss than a home theater.

Roomwake One isn’t trying to be a 7.1 system. It’s built for one job, clearer talking, for less money and one cable.

What Roomwake One won’t do

  • It won’t give you surround sound or Dolby Atmos. It’s a 2.0 stereo bar.
  • It won’t connect by HDMI. Use the optical cable, AUX or Bluetooth.
  • It won’t shake the room. For that you’d add a powered sub through SUB OUT.
  • It won’t always follow your TV remote. The Roomwake remote is in the box.

Setup tips

Jonas, our product tester, sets one up.

Jonas is the Roomwake product tester character. These are our setup tips, not test results or reviews.

Jonas lifts the bar out of its box at a dining table
Find the port first. “Before you unbox it, look behind the TV for the optical port. Ninety seconds with a flashlight saves the guesswork.”
Jonas plugs the optical cable into a TV
Pull the little caps. “Both ends of the optical cable have clear dust caps. If you hear nothing, that’s usually why.”
Roomwake One mounted on a bedroom wall below a TV
Low TV feet? Use the wall. “If the bar covers the TV’s remote sensor, mount it on the wall right under the screen. The kit is in the box.”

Get the most out of it

  • Speakers off. Turn the TV’s own speakers off in the sound menu so voices don’t echo.
  • PCM, not Dolby. Crackles or silence? The TV is sending Dolby. Switch digital out to PCM.
  • Lip-sync. If voices run late, set the TV’s audio delay to 0 or use optical instead of Bluetooth.
  • Volume buttons. Some TV remotes can learn the Roomwake remote’s buttons; the maker says Fire TV remotes work with it.
  • Want more bass later? SUB OUT takes a powered subwoofer. The bar works fine without one.

FAQ

Straight answers.

Does it connect with HDMI ARC?

No. Roomwake One has no HDMI port. It connects to your TV with the included optical cable (TV port labelled Optical, Digital Audio Out or SPDIF), with the 3.5 mm cable, or over Bluetooth.

Will my TV remote control the volume?

Not always. Over optical, many TVs don’t pass volume to the bar, so use the Roomwake remote. The maker says Fire TV remotes work with it, and many TVs and cable remotes can “learn” it. Check your remote’s manual for learning mode.

Will it really make voices clearer?

It’s built for that: two drivers face you instead of the wall, and News mode brings voices forward. How much it helps depends on your TV and room. Review the store’s return conditions before ordering.

Is it Dolby Atmos or surround?

No. It’s a 2.0 stereo bar that plays PCM. Set your TV’s digital audio output to PCM. If you want Atmos and rear speakers, you need a bigger, pricier system.

How big a TV does it suit?

At 17 inches wide it’s sized for 32″–43″ TVs. It works under 50–55″ and bigger TVs too; it just looks small there. It’s 2.5 inches tall, so check it doesn’t cover the bottom of the screen or the TV’s remote sensor.

Do I need a subwoofer?

No. The bar has a bass port and sounds fuller than thin TV speakers on its own. If you want more bass later, SUB OUT connects a powered subwoofer.

The voices are out of sync with lips. What do I do?

Use the optical cable rather than Bluetooth for TV, and set any “audio delay” or “lip-sync” setting on the TV to 0. Bluetooth always adds a small delay.

How many watts is it?

The maker rates it 40 W (2 × 20 W). Some bars advertise big peak-watt numbers; they aren’t a useful guide to loudness, so we don’t use them.

Can I play music from my phone?

Yes, over Bluetooth 5.3. Switch the bar’s source to Bluetooth (the light turns blue), then pick it on your phone. Range is about 33 ft (maker’s rating).

Is the video real?

No. The video at the top is a dramatization of how Roomwake One is meant to be used, made for this page. It is not a recording of a real home or a sound test.
