6 weeks in: I haven't touched the vacuum

I was a robot vacuum skeptic. I had a cheap one years ago that got stuck under the couch every day and died in the middle of the living room. This is a different category. Here's my honest take after 6 weeks in a 2-bed condo with hardwood and two rugs.

Setup: the app wanted 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. My router combines bands, so I had to toggle that for 5 minutes. After that it was simple. First run took about 70 minutes and drew a really clean map. I set virtual walls around the cables behind the TV.

Daily use: it runs at 9 a.m. on weekdays. I come home to clean floors, empty the bin, done. It returns to the dock on its own when it's done or low.

What it's not: it doesn't empty itself and it doesn't avoid socks like the $800 camera models. Pick up cables before it runs or put a virtual wall around them.

Bottom line: I haven't pulled out the stick vacuum in 6 weeks. For the price this is the best purchase I've made this year.

Good, but it lost its map once

After I moved the dock to another room, it had to remap and my saved map and virtual walls were gone, so I redid them. Not a big deal but annoying. Mopping is lighter than I expected. Vacuuming itself is solid, so three stars for now; I'll update.

Tile floors look great

Kitchen and bathrooms are tile. I fill the tank, put the water on medium and let it go after breakfast. It leaves a light damp streak that dries in a minute. It won't remove dried spaghetti sauce, but the everyday dust and footprints are gone and I mop by hand maybe once a month now instead of twice a week.

Perfect for a studio

Two floors, two robots, zero regrets

We have a two-story house with three kids and a dog, so we bought two (the per-robot price drops when you buy two, which made the decision easy). One lives upstairs, one downstairs, each with its own map and schedule. We were nervous about the stairs, so we also drew a virtual wall along the top step (photo from the first week, we watched it like hawks).

Things we learned: put the dock where it has some space on both sides, run the first map with doors open, and draw virtual walls around the kids' play mats. The mop is good for daily dust in the kitchen but don't expect it to replace a real mop for sticky juice spills.

UPDATE after 2 months: both still running daily. Bins need emptying every day with the dog. We'd buy the same again.

Fine for hard floors, so-so on thick carpet

Our living room has thick plush carpet. It does clean it, but I don't think it gets deep down like my upright. On hardwood and short rugs it's great. Know what you're buying: it's a daily maintenance vacuum, not a deep cleaner.

Vacuuming is great. The mop pad does pick up dirt (look at that pad after one run) but it's a light wipe, not a scrub. I wish the water tank were a bit bigger for our large kitchen; it runs low before the end on the highest water setting. Still a 4-star buy for the price.
