Built for the Bassist Who Plays Straight to the Board

Every control solves a problem we heard at real gigs, real services and real recording sessions.

Clean/Drive Blend

Mix 0 to 100% JFET drive with your untouched clean signal. You get tube-style grit on top and a full fundamental underneath, even on a low B string.

Balanced XLR + Ground Lift

A 600 Ohm gold-plated XLR with phantom power protection and a -98dBu noise floor. One flip of GND LIFT kills ground-loop hum.

Analog 4x10 Cab Sim

Switch it on and the direct feed sounds like a mic'd 4x10 cabinet, with the harsh clank above roughly 4.5kHz rolled off before it hits the PA horns.

Active 3-Band EQ

+/-12dB at 80Hz for weight, 500Hz for punch and 3.2kHz for attack. A small mid boost gets you through two loud guitarists.

How the BassStage-XLR Works

Dial In Warmth Without Losing the Bottom

Dial In Warmth Without Losing the Bottom

Set Drive for grit, then use Blend to bring back your clean signal. Around 10 o'clock on Blend gives a warm, chewy tone with the full low end still there. Shape it with Bass, Mid and Treble.

Send a Quiet, Balanced Feed to the Board

Send a Quiet, Balanced Feed to the Board

Plug any standard XLR cable into the output. If you hear hum, flip GND LIFT. Flip CAB SIM for a mic'd-cabinet sound. Both toggles are recessed so they stay where you set them.

Split Your Signal Two Ways

Split Your Signal Two Ways

The XLR carries your shaped tone to FOH or your interface. The parallel 1/4-inch thru sends a clean, dry copy to your tuner, stage amp or monitor wedge.

Description

Full Description: The Cosari BassStage-XLR is an all-analog bass preamp and DI box in a CNC-machined, matte-black anodized aluminum enclosure. It combines a JFET drive circuit with a true wet/dry Blend, an active 3-band EQ, a switchable 4x10 cab simulator, a balanced XLR output with ground lift and phantom protection, and a parallel 1/4-inch thru. It's designed for bassists who play straight to front-of-house or record direct into an interface.

Power Requirements: Runs on a standard 9V DC center-negative pedal power supply (not included), the same type used by most boutique pedals. There is no internal battery compartment, which keeps the enclosure compact and means a dead battery can't cut you off mid-set.

Shipping & Returns: Free tracked shipping on every order. Covered by our 30-Day Money-Back Guarantee and a 2-Year Warranty against defects.

Shipping & 30-Day Returns

Free Shipping: Every order ships free with full tracking within 24 hours.

30-Day Trial: Try it at home for 30 days risk-free. Need help? Email us anytime at support@buycosari.com.

2-Year Warranty: If anything goes wrong within 2 years, we replace it free of charge or refund your order in full.

Left my 65lb combo amp in the garage for Sunday worship

Left my 65lb combo amp in the garage for Sunday worship. Plugged the XLR straight into our stage snake, flipped the Cab Sim on, and my bass sat in the in-ear monitors like a studio record. Soundcheck took literally 15 seconds and our FOH tech asked what boutique box I was running.

Clean/Drive Blend knob at this price is a game changer

My biggest gripe with cheap bass drives is that the moment you step on the switch, your bottom end disappears. Having a real Clean/Drive Blend knob at this price point is an absolute game changer. Solid anodized aluminum enclosure feels like a tank under my boot and the knobs have smooth, heavy resistance.

Cuts through two loud guitars better than my $249 pedal

I own a $249 SansAmp BDDI and bought this as a gig-bag backup. Honestly, the dedicated Mid knob at 500Hz on this unit makes it way easier to cut through two loud guitarists than my old SansAmp. It has earned the permanent spot on my main board.

60Hz rehearsal room hum vanished instantly

Our rehearsal room has notorious dirty power that makes every DI buzz. Flipped the ground lift switch on this box and the 60Hz hum vanished instantly. No plastic jacks here either—metal nuts on the 1/4-inch ports and a locking metal XLR output that doesn't wobble.

Zero clipping on the low B string into my Scarlett

Plugged my active 5-string straight into my Focusrite Scarlett via the XLR out. Zero hiss, zero clipping on the low B string, and the analog cab sim takes all that nasty piezo-style clank right off the top. Makes tracking bass at home effortless.

Warm Ampeg-style tube sag for passive P and J basses

Just dial the Blend knob to 10 o'clock and Drive to 11 o'clock and leave it on all night. Gives passive jazz pickups that warm, chewy Ampeg SVT tube sag without sounding overly distorted. Best $80 I've spent on bass gear in ten years.

Parallel thru jack is clutch (heads up: needs 9V adapter)

The parallel 1/4-inch thru jack is clutch—I run the sculpted XLR with cab sim to the Front of House engineer and send the clean parallel out to my stage tuner and monitor wedge. Note for beginners: just like Darkglass and MXR pedals, it runs on a standard 9V center-negative pedal adapter with no battery door, which I actually prefer so a dead battery never kills a gig.

Makes zero sense to pay $260 for the big brands anymore

For $80, getting an active 3-band EQ, parallel thru, balanced XLR with ground lift, cab sim, AND a blendable overdrive in one metal enclosure makes zero sense for the big brands charging $260. Potentiometers feel super tight and don't get bumped in my gig bag.

Saved our set when my tube head blew a fuse

Bought the BassStage-XLR to keep in my front bass case pocket just in case. Sure enough, my tube head blew a fuse during warm-up last Saturday. Plugged this straight into the PA snake, dialed in the 4x10 cab sim, and played two full sets with massive low end.

Heavy-duty footswitch and silent engagement

No loud pop through the PA when you click the footswitch on or off. The anodized black finish looks sleek on my board and the white pointer lines on the knobs are easy to read on a dim stage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will 48V phantom power from the mixing board damage it?

No. The XLR output has protection diodes that block phantom voltage. We left 48V on during testing and saw no damage. The pedal itself still needs a standard 9V DC center-negative supply to run.

Does turning on the drive kill my low end?

No. The Blend knob mixes your untouched clean signal with the JFET drive, so the fundamental stays in. We confirmed it with a low B (30.87Hz) on a spectrum analyzer.

Do the EQ and cab sim affect the parallel thru jack?

No. The EQ, drive and cab sim shape the processed signal on the XLR. The parallel 1/4-inch thru sends a clean, dry copy to your tuner or stage amp.

Does the cab sim work on the XLR output?

Yes. Flip the CAB SIM toggle and the XLR feed gets an analog 4x10-style voicing that rolls off harsh string clank above roughly 4.5kHz.

Will the footswitch pop through the PA?

No. The switching is pop-free. We stepped on it repeatedly through a full PA at performance volume and heard no thump.

Can it handle an active 18V bass?

Yes. The 1M Ohm input has enough headroom for vintage passive pickups and hot active preamps. Our active 5-string didn't clip, even on the low B.
